D2i – Design to innovate participated in the 2nd Cambridge Academic Design Management Conference – CADMC 2013 in September with two articles:
Strategic designer competence framework: Towards new understandings of the foundational skills by Marianne Storgaard. The article gives a theoretical comparison of the literature behind the concepts “creativity” and “strategic design”, and offers, on this basis, suggestions of how these two concepts differ. Focus is especially on “domain relevant knowledge”, in the creativity literature described as fundamental knowledge of a specific field from which creativity must originate. This kind of knowledge is not, however, given much focus in the strategic design literature, and possible explanations and backgrounds are discussed in the article.
Facilitatin Innovation through Design in a Danish Context – a framework for design capacity by Pia Storvang, Susanne Jensen, Poul Rind Christensen and Marianne Storgaard. The article is concerned with the use of the Design Capacity Model in nine different companies. It discusses what the Design Capacity Model can be used for and the pros and cons of the model. This article was awarded the title of Best Paper at the conference.
